Stretch Marks

Symptoms of Stretch Marks

Stretch marks first appear as red or purple lines under the skin because the stretched skin is more transparent and the tiny capillaries that lie deep in the skin are visible. Later on, the blood vessels contract and the purplish color fades to white, which is simply the fat under the skin showing through. Stretch marks can appear anywhere, but they usually appear on the abdominal area, thighs, hips, breasts, upper arms, and lower back.

Preventing Stretch Marks :

Here are some useful tips that can be used to prevent stretch marks, but please remember that they are not guaranteed to be completely successful because your skin may not to respond to preventive measures.

Drink at least eight to ten glasses of water each day. An adequate water intake will make your skin soft and supple and prevent it from tearing.
Limit the intake of tea, coffee, and carbonated drinks.
Maintain a healthy weight and limit the consumption of fatty foods in the diet. A balanced diet that contains nutritional elements can be very beneficial.
Being physically active by doing regular exercise can help to tone the skin and body.

Natural Cures

Stretch marks are considered to be permanent in nature. They will never completely disappear but they may fade over a period of time. Try a few of these natural cures to lighten the appearance of stretch marks:

Dietary modifications

Foods that are rich in zinc such as nuts and fish, foods with a high content of vitamin A, C, and D such as citrus fruits, dairy products, and carrots and protein-rich foods like eggs are very helpful for maintaining healthy skin. They can also aid in preventing stretch marks.

Home remedies

Apply cocoa butter or lotions containing cocoa butter as a key ingredient on the areas that are typically prone to stretch marks during pregnancy to prevent them from forming.
Blend one half of a cup of olive oil, one fourth of a cup of aloe vera gel, the contents of six vitamin E capsules, and the contents of four capsules of vitamin A. Apply this mixture on those areas of the body where stretch marks normally appear.

Add a few drops of essential oil of lavender and a few drops of chamomile oil into one cup of sesame or almond oil and apply this regularly onto the affected area.
