Influenza

Symptoms of Influenza

The symptoms of influenza include high-grade fever, chills, headache, body ache, extreme fatigue, dry cough, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, and vomiting (common among children).

Preventing Influenza

Prevention is better than cure. You can avoid influenza by being vaccinated every year. In addition to vaccines, following healthy and hygienic living habits can also prevent influenza.

Receive an annual flu shot.
Thoroughly wash hands under running water with an antibacterial soap before eating, after using the bathroom, and in general, before touching eyes, ears, nose, and mouth.
Use a tissue to cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing and throw it in the garbage immediately.
Stay away from those who are sneezing or coughing.
If you have low immunity, avoid crowded places such as markets, shopping centers, or cinema halls during an epidemic.
Do not stay out in wet and cold weather for a long duration because it lowers your resistance and increases your risk of infection.
Avoid smoking and alcohol because they can also impair your resistance.

Natural Cures

IIf you do contract the flu, try some of the following home remedies from the kitchen to ease your suffering.

Mustard

Mustard has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that may aid in relieving the worst symptoms of influenza. Here are a few suggestions:

Make a mustard plaster with one tablespoon of dry mustard and two to four tablespoons of regular flour. Add enough warm water and prepare a paste. You may also add one egg white to this paste. Spread this paste on a clean handkerchief or a square piece of cloth. Cover it with another handkerchief. Apply olive oil on the upper chest of the patient and place this mustard plaster in that area. Occasionally, lift the mustard plaster away from the skin since it may cause stinging or burning sensation from the volatile oils present in mustard. Keep this plaster on for a few minutes and wash off the remnants of mustard paste from the skin.
Boil one cup of water and add one teaspoon of mustard seeds in it. Let it simmer for a few minutes. Strain and drink this tea while it is still warm.

Lemon

Lemons are highly acidic and make the mucus membranes inhospitable for bacterial and viral colonies. Lemon oil has antibacterial, antiviral, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. It also acts as an expectorant. Here is a recipe that uses lemon for the treatment of influenza:

Roughly chop one whole lemon and put the entire fruit (including skin, pulp, seeds, and juice) into one cup of boiling water. Inhale the steam coming out of this mixture while lemon is steeping in water for several minutes. Once it becomes warm enough to touch, strain, add honey to taste, and sip this hot lemonade three to four times each day throughout the duration of the flu.

Other natural remedies

Consume a large amount of fresh fruits and vegetable juices, especially the ones that are high in vitamin C, to stay hydrated.
Take 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C three times each day. Vitamin C strengthens the immune system.
Drinking clear broth, such as chicken, beef, or vegetable, will keep you hydrated and help to liquefy any mucous secretions.
Consume hot teas using ingredients such as pepper, thyme, cinnamon, and ginger to ease the symptoms of influenza.
Garlic strengthens the immune system and is beneficial in helping the body to fight viruses. Consume garlic raw or in tablet form, or add garlic to food.
