Symptoms of Body Rash

Rashes may appear anywhere on the body. They may develop on only one area of the body or they may occur all over the body. The symptoms of body rash are:

Itchiness
Redness of skin
Bumpy texture
Cracking
Crusting or flakiness
Dryness
Lesions such as blisters, pustules, and wheals
Scaling
Swelling

Symptoms indicating a serious condition are:
Extreme tenderness and soreness after touching the inflicted area
Unusual swelling
Fever
Joint pain
Breathlessness
Soreness or tightness in the throat
Streaks of redness

It is important to consult your health care practitioner if any of the above mentioned serious signs are observed.

Natural Cures

Minor body rashes usually disappear without any treatment. However, some natural remedies may aid in alleviating itchiness and soreness.

Oatmeal

An oatmeal bath can provide relief from itching. To make a relaxing and effective oatmeal bath:

Pour one cup of oatmeal into a cotton sock and wrap a rubber band around the sock. Fill the bathtub with comfortably hot water and use the oatmeal-filled sock as a sponge to scrub your body.
Use oatmeal based cleansing bars and body lotions to feel relief from itching.
An oatmeal bath is very effective in curing diaper rash.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera gel is known for its anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, sunscreen and healing properties that soothe skin problems like eczema and psoriasis.

Apply the gel of the Aloe Vera plant two to three times each day to the affected rash area.

The following tips can provide relief from itching:

Avoid allowing the itchy area to become dehydrated. Maintain moisture and cool the area by applying ice compress several times each day.
Avoid the sun because heat incites itchiness.
Wear soft, natural fabrics such as cotton or linen, and avoid abrasive material such as wool. Clothes made from synthetic fiber such as nylon or lycra may further irritate the skin.
Use mild or medicated bath and beauty products such as soaps, creams and lotions. Avoid products that are heavily perfumed.
Do not scratch the itch! Scratching will aggravate the condition and may lead to scarring.
