Symptoms of Carpal
Tunnel Syndrome
Individuals
who are suffering from carpal tunnel
syndrome initially experience numbness
and tingling of the hand in the area
of the median nerve (the thumb, index
finger, middle finger, and part of the
fourth finger). CTS is particularly
painful at night and can awaken patients
from their sleep. Here are some of the
major symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome:
|
Vague
aching in the wrist. |
|
Numbness
or tingling in the fingers or hands
(excluding the pinky finger). |
|
Elevation
in the numbness and pain that extends
from the wrist to the arms and shoulders.
This pain becomes more severe during
the night. |
|
Problem
in coordinating the movement of
the fingers. |
|
Decreased
grip strength; objects are dropped
from the hand frequently. |
|
Weakness
in the thumb. |
In
some severe cases, the prolonged
irritation in the median nerve may
result in permanent deterioration
of the muscle tissue. |
Natural Cures
Ice Pack
A simple and
effective way to cope with CTS is to
apply ice packs on the affected area.
This process will aid in the reduction
of swelling.
Lavender oil
Lavender oil
can be applied topically to alleviate
muscular pains and sprains. Here is
how it can be utilized:
|
Apply
a small quantity of this oil to
the sore spot. |
|
Add a few
drops of lavender oil to warm water
and immerse the aching hand in this
mixture for 30 minutes. |
Vitamins
Vitamin B6 assists
in strengthening the protective covering
that surrounds the tendons and also
aids in relieving pain. Consume approximately
300 milligrams of Vitamin B6 each day
for three months to obtain the most
effective results. The maintenance dosage
should be between 50 and 100 milligrams
each day. Banana, spinach, oatmeal,
potatoes, wheat bran and soybeans are
adequate sources of Vitamin B6.
Consume adequate
doses of Vitamin B2, which are obtainable
from green leafy vegetables, whole grain,
yogurt, legumes and consume Vitamin
B12 in addition to Vitamin B6. The daily
dosage of Vitamin B2 should not exceed
100 milligrams and Vitamin B12 should
be taken in tablet form (1000mcg) and
dissolved under the tongue.
Here are some
actions that can aid in preventing carpal
tunnel syndrome and reduce the aggravation
of the actual condition:
|
Reduce
the amount of repetitive wrist movements
and rest the arm if pain is experienced. |
|
Sit upright
and stand erect. |
|
Avoid resting
the wrists on hard surfaces for
long periods of time. |
|
Use properly
designed tools that do not cause
unnecessary pressure on the wrist. |
|
Avoid sitting
or standing in the same position
for long periods of time. |
