Chafing |
|
Chafing is a
common problem that is experienced by
many athletes and runners in particular.
However, chafing is not a problem that
is exclusive to individuals who are
leading an active life. It is a common
belief that chafing indicates that weight
loss is needed but this belief is not
necessarily true. Chafing is a skin
irritation that is caused when skin
rubs against skin, clothing or any other
material. It can occur anywhere, but
the groin, underarms and nipples are
the prime chafing areas.
Causes and Risk Factors
Chafing is primarily
caused by rubbing and sweating. The
occurrences of chafing can increase
in an individual because of obesity,
pregnancy, excessive sweating, adverse
environmental conditions such as excessive
heat or humidity, and wearing synthetic
clothing while exercising or doing intense
physical activity.
