Symptoms of Common Fever
When the body is under stress because
of any of the above mentioned causes
or because of any additional causes,
it displays warning signals in the
form of fever, chills, body ache,
restlessness, and loss of appetite.
Usually these symptoms are all inter-related
and appear simultaneously.
Common fever
generally begins with slight shivering
and body ache. An individual may feel
tired and thirsty. There may be a
lesser flow of urine in addition to
urine discoloration (usually darker
in color).
The patient’s
pulse and respiration become faster
with the rise in body temperature.
The patient may also experience excessive
sweating and burning sensation or
heaviness in the eyes. Fatigue and
weakness increase to make the patient
feel restless and irritable. There
may be white coating on the tongue
followed by a loss of appetite.
Natural Cures
Fever can be alleviated by several
home remedies. It is important that
the patient remains adequately hydrated
because dehydration produced by mild
fever can often be more serious than
fever itself. Here are a few natural
cures that can be used to treat common
fever.
Holy Basil
Holy
basil (Tulsi) aids in reducing the
body temperature. Here is how to use
it:
|
Boil
one liter of water and mix 12 grams
of holy basil leaves into it. Cool,
strain and consume this concoction
twice each day. |
|
An extract
of holy basil leaves in fresh water
can be consumed every two or three
hours to lower the body temperature.
|
|
Tea made
of holy basil leaves, milk, one
pinch of cardamom powder and some
sugar or honey for sweetness can
be consumed. |
|
Boil five
grams of dry holy basil leaves,
two grams of ginger and two grams
of black pepper with water. Add
milk and sugar. Drink this concoction
to cure fever and chest pains that
are caused by bound muscles. |
|
Consume
two grams of powdered black pepper
in 10 grams of juice pressed from
holy basil leaves every morning.
This remedy is said to ensure protection
against all types of fevers. |
Vinegar
|
Soak
socks in white vinegar for five
minutes and wear them to reduce
fever |
|
Make a solution
of water and vinegar in one to one
proportion. Soak a soft washcloth
in this solution and squeeze the
excess liquid out. Put this cloth
over the forehead to reduce fever.
|
|
In a bowl
mix white vinegar and lukewarm water
in a five to two proportion, respectively.
Soak two wash cloths in this solution
and wring to release excess liquid.
Wrap the cloths around the lower
legs to lower the body temperature. |
Make
a paste with about 10 cloves of fresh
garlic and spread it thickly onto cotton
pads. Rub some olive oil on the sole
of the feet and apply the prepared cotton
pads on the feet. Wrap the feet with
gauze strips so that the pads stay intact.
Ensure that the soles of the feet are
not entirely covered so that the heat
can escape. Leave the pads on for at
least an hour or overnight if possible.
Diet – Liquid Intake
Avoid
the consumption of sugar while suffering
from fever. Sugar is known to inhibit
the body’s production of white
blood cells and to weaken the immune
system. Also avoid the consumption of
dairy products because dairy products
inhibit the immune system and contribute
to mucous production. Avoid dehydration
during fever by increasing the liquid
intake in the diet.
|
Drink
plenty of water because it will
help to eliminate the waste products
from the body. |
|
Consume
iced drinks, popsicles or fruit
juices if plain water is not desired.
Avoid sugary drinks or soft drinks
and if consuming fruit juice, ensure
that sugar is not one of the main
ingredients. |
|
Sip herbal
teas. Use herbs and spices such
as willow bark, meadowsweet flowers,
elder, peppermint, ginger, saffron
and cinnamon to make herbal teas.
