Diabetes

Symptoms of Diabetes

Most symptoms of type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes are similar. In many cases, individuals who are suffering from diabetes ignore the warning signs and are unaware of the serious condition that is afflicting them. It is important to correctly diagnose diabetes as soon as possible so that immediate treatment can begin.

Major symptoms of diabetes are increased thirst, frequent urination, intense hunger pangs, weight loss, tiredness, blurry vision, frequent infections, and slow-healing wounds.

Natural Cures

Although diabetes cannot be cured, it can be managed and controlled. There are several natural remedies that are traditionally used to prevent and control diabetes. However, use them with caution and consult your physician before trying any of these natural cures.

Bitter melon

Largely cultivated in the tropical climates of Asia, Africa, and South America, bitter melon is renowned for its blood sugar lowering effect. It contains a polypeptide known as Gurmarin that is considered to have similar properties of insulin. Experimental studies have shown the positive sugar regulating effect of this chemical. Fresh juice or the extract of unripe (green) bitter melon can be used to control diabetes as it lowers blood and urine sugar levels. All of the treatments that involve the use of bitter melon in any form should be continued for several weeks to obtain the desired effect

Juice four or five whole unripe (green) bitter melons, strain to remove the pulp, and consume this juice every morning on an empty stomach. Please be aware that the juice is extremely bitter!
Prepare a decoction by adding chopped bitter melon to boiling water. Let it steep for a few minutes, strain and drink this tea.
Consume one or two capsules of bitter melon extract every day with meals.
Include bitter melon in your regular diet. Several Asian delicacies are prepared with this fruit.

Fenugreek seeds

Fenugreek seeds contain certain elements that possess anti-diabetic properties. They can increase the number of insulin receptors in red blood cells and improve glucose utilization in associated tissues. Additionally, the amino acid 4- hydroxyisoleucine, contained in the seeds, can also directly stimulate insulin secretion.
Here are some suggestions for how to use this remedy:

Mix five grams of fenugreek seed powder in milk and drink this daily.
Alternatively, swallow five grams of these seeds everyday. If using hydroalcoholic extract, ensure that consumption does not exceed more than one gram each day.

Lifestyle changes for diabetes

Type 2 diabetes can be prevented, and if it is developed it can be controlled. A few lifestyle changes can be very beneficial in ensuring that you live a healthy and happy life, with or without diabetes.

Eat healthy. Include plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains in your diet. Avoid junk food, processed food, and sugary treats. Avoid the consumption of alcohol and caffeine, and avoid giving cow’s milk to children who may be genetically susceptible to diabetes.
Maintain a healthy weight. Make necessary dietary changes and formulate a fitness plan if you are overweight or obese.
Be physically active to keep your metabolism active. Make minor changes in your lifestyle if following an exercise regimen does not sound possible. Running with your dog, walking to the grocery store, using the stairs instead of the elevator, standing while you are on telephone, stretching while you are watching television, playing with your children, weeding your garden, and washing your car are just some of the suggestions you can easily include into your daily routine.
Always have your blood sugar tested regularly. Monitor your blood sugar to know if you need to alter your medication.
Do not avoid the medicines prescribed by your doctor and do not miss doses.
Quit smoking.
