Gastritis

Symptoms of Gastritis

The most common symptom of gastritis is pain or discomfort in the upper central portion of the abdomen. Individuals who are suffering from gastritis typically use the terms burning, sharp, stabbing, aching, or gnawing to describe their pain. Patients also complain of belching, bloating, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, fever, lethargy, or a feeling of fullness or burning in the upper abdomen. Some of the other serious symptoms that may be associated with gastritis are palpitations, chest pain, stomach pain, breathlessness, and passing blood in stool. If any of these symptoms are observed, it is important to have a professional examination and to receive treatment immediately.

Natural Cures

Vitamins

Deficiency of vitamin B12 is believed to make an individual susceptible to pernicious anemia and H. pylori infection. Vitamin B12 supplements may be used to treat gastritis that is caused by H. pylori infection. Good dietary sources of vitamin B12 include fish, dairy products, organ meats (particularly liver and kidney), egg, beef, and pork. Vitamins A and C are also believed to have healing effects on the inflamed stomach lining.

Coconut water

Tender coconut water is a natural isotonic beverage. It is compared to blood plasma because it is sterile, pyrogen-free, and does not destroy blood cells. It is used extensively to treat both acute and chronic gastritis and to heal gastric ulcers. Consume approximately 200 milliliters of fresh coconut water twice each day to treat gastritis

Herbal remedies

Several herbs can help to alleviate the symptoms that are associated with gastritis such as nausea, indigestion, bloating, and general abdominal discomfort. Here are a few suggestions:

Chamomile can be used to treat nausea, vomiting, heartburn, and excess intestinal gas. Chamomile tea can be prepared by infusing dried or fresh herbs in boiling water and it should be consumed two to three times each day to obtain relief.
Ginger is renowned for its use as a digestive aid. It also has an anti-inflammatory quality, which makes it especially beneficial in treating gastritis. Infuse one small chunk of grated ginger root in boiling water, let it steep for a few minutes and mix in one half of a teaspoon of lemon juice and a little bit of honey. Sip slowly.
Use carminative herbs and spices such as fennel, dill, aniseed, lemon balm, basil, cinnamon, and coriander to provide relief from gastritis. These herbs and spices may also be used liberally while cooking each day.

Lifestyle and gastritis

A few simple lifestyle changes may prevent recurrent bouts of gastritis and enhance the strength of the immune system in the body.

Avoid or minimize the intake of alcohol, tobacco, acidic beverages such as coffee (both caffeinated and decaffeinated), carbonated beverages, and fruit juices with citric acid.
Limit the intake of Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, and switch to other pain relievers (such as acetominophen).
Eat a fiber-rich diet and avoid fatty foods.
Learn stress management by following relaxation techniques like meditation and yoga.
