Indigestion

Symptoms of Indigestion

As mentioned earlier, indigestion is a broad term that covers several conditions. Some of the symptoms of these conditions that describe indigestion are pain in the stomach, a burning sensation in the upper abdomen, heartburn, bloating, belching and flatulance, nausea and vomiting, acidic or metallic taste in the mouth, caused by stomach acids coming up in the esophagus and growling or rumbling stomach.

Natural Cures

Indigestion can be uncomfortable and can even lead to embarrassing situations. Try some of the following natural cures to cope with indigestion:

Ginger

Ginger is regarded as having diverse healing properties and is used prominently in treating most digestive disorders. It is believed to stimulate the pancreas, thus increasing the secretion of enzymes that promote digestion and avoiding the symptoms that are typically associated with indigestion such as nausea, bloating, and vomiting. Try some of the following recipes for tackling indigestion:

Grate a small chunk of ginger in boiling water and let it steep for ten minutes. Strain and add some honey. Drink this warm and soothing concoction.
Add one teaspoon of lemon juice, one teaspoon of fresh ginger juice, and a pinch of rock salt in warm water and drink this to relieve indigestion symptoms.
Soak a few slices of fresh ginger root in lemon juice and chew this after every meal.
Mix one teaspoon of dry ginger powder, one teaspoon of black pepper powder, and a pinch of ground cardamom in warm water and drink it an hour after consuming meals.

Mint

Herbalists believe that mint has carminative, simulative, and stomachic properties that aid in digestion. The essential oil present in this herb acts as an anesthetic to the lining of the stomach walls, thus reducing the sensitivity of the stomach tissues toward the acids. Here is how to use mint for relieving indigestion:

Chew four to five mint leaves after having meals. It not only acts as a natural mouth freshener but also aids digestion.
Prepare mint tea by adding a few fresh mint leaves in boiling water and letting it steep for a few minutes. Enhance the medicinal value of this tea by grating a small piece of fresh ginger root or adding a teaspoon of ginger juice in it. Drink this tea twice each day for best results.
One teaspoon of mint juice, one teaspoon of lemon juice, and one teaspoon of honey can also act as a digestive remedy.
