Nausea

In
most cases, nausea itself is a symptom
of several ailments. However, the symptoms
of nausea are an uncomfortable feeling
and the urge to vomit. The individual
may feel dizzy, faint, or disoriented.
Vomiting may eventually occur. Nausea
may occur for a short period or it may
be chronic. If nausea endures for more
than six months with excessive vomiting,
the patient may face problems like dehydration,
and in extreme cases it may be fatal.
Natural Cures
There are several
natural cures that can be used to treat
nausea. Here are a few remedies:
Ginger
Ginger has been
used as a medicine in Asian, Indian,
and Arabic herbal traditions to treat
stomach upset, diarrhea, and nausea
since the ancient time period. Conventional
prescription and nonprescription medicines
that alleviate nausea can also cause
side effects such as dry mouth and drowsiness.
Ginger is a safer alternative to these
medications to relieve motion sickness.
It is also safe for curing pregnancy-related
motion sickness. Here is the recommended
dosage of ginger that should be taken
to cure nausea:
The daily consumption
of ginger should be two to four grams
of fresh root or one quarter of a gram
to one gram of powdered root or one
and one half to three milliliters (30-90
drops) of liquid extract. To prevent
vomiting, one gram of powdered ginger
(one half of a teaspoon) or its equivalent
can be consumed every four hours as
needed. Alternatively, two ginger capsules
can be taken three times each day. The
best way to use ginger to treat nausea
is to chew on a small piece of fresh
ginger root when you feel nauseous.
Mint
Mint has several
medicinal properties including antibacterial,
antiviral, antifungal, antispasmodic,
antinausea and carminative. Steep approximately
one tablespoon of dry leaves or a bunch
of fresh mint leaves in one pint of
hot water for approximately 30 minutes.
Strain the leaves, stir in some honey
and lemon, and drink. Chewing boiled
mint leaves can also cure nausea.
Spices
Aromatic
spices such as aniseed, clove, and cinnamon
can alleviate nausea. Here are a few
suggestions:
|
Brew
aniseed into a tea by steeping one
quarter of a teaspoon of aniseed
in one half of a cup of boiling
water. Strain and drink this tea
once each day. |
|
Steep a
pinch of powdered cinnamon or whole
cloves in one cup of boiling water.
Sweeten with honey if desired. |
Controlling Nausea
There are several
self-care measures that can be used
to control or relieve nausea. If these
techniques do not seem to ease the queasiness,
consult a doctor.
The following
instructions may be used to control
the urge to vomit:

clear beverages such as water or
ice-cold drinks. |
