Natural Cures
Abrasions
and cuts are easy to treat at home because
of their non-serious nature. A clean,
infection-free wound heals much faster
than a neglected wound. Therefore, care
must be taken to clean abrasions and
cuts before applying any ointment or
medication. An easy way to clean abrasions
is to use a mild soap and water. Antiseptic
soaps can also be used. Pat the wound
dry before proceeding to use a remedy.
Icepacks can also be used for immediate
relief. Tetanus injections may be required
to prevent infections, particularly
if brushing against iron surfaces was
the cause of the wound. Consult a physician
for the treatment of deeper wounds.
Aloe
The
healing properties of aloe gel make
it an effective home remedy for general
cuts and abrasions and it is available
in most drug stores. Aloe is naturally
anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and soothing.
Wash the wound and gently apply aloe
gel, or, if you have an aloe plant at
home, simply break its leaf and apply
the oozing gel onto the clean wound.
Leave
the wound open so that it can dry and
undergo scab formation. Do not remove
the scab because doing so will interfere
with the healing process.
Honey
Clean
the wound and apply a thin layer of
raw honey, which is typically available
in health food stores and in most grocery
stores. Cover the wound with a bandage
and if possible, leave the wound covered
with honey overnight. Honey acts as
a painkiller and fights the germs that
hasten the recovery process.
Turmeric
Turmeric
powder is known for its high medicinal
value, and this is the main reason for
its inclusion in almost every item in
the Indian cuisine. Turmeric is used
in India as a home remedy for several
general ailments and it is very beneficial
for healing abrasions and cuts.

Clean
the wound and sprinkle some turmeric
powder onto it. The antiseptic
component in turmeric reduces
infection and speeds healing.
Leave the wound open to let it
dry. As an additional precaution,
mix one half of a teaspoon of
turmeric powder into a glass of
warm milk and drink it to experience
a deep sleep without any pain. |

Turmeric
can be used to maintain softness
of the skin after the wound dries
and a scab forms. Warm one half
of a teaspoon of ghee (clarified
butter) and add one pinch of turmeric
powder. Use a swab of sterilized
cotton to apply this mixture onto
the scab. Repeat this procedure
three to four times each day until
the scab is naturally removed.
Be careful when using turmeric
this way because it may leave
a yellow stain on clothes. |
Sugar
Sugar is effective in stopping the
flow of blood from a wound. It is
especially helpful when people hurt
their lips or the soft tissue inside
of their mouths because applying an
antiseptic in these places is not
recommended. Wash the wound gently
and sprinkle some sugar onto the cut
to stop the bleeding.
