Symptoms of
Burns
Depending on their severity, burns can
affect various layers of the skin and
tissues. Therefore the symptoms differ.
|
First
Degree Burns: These minor
burns only affect the top layer
of the skin. They cause redness,
swelling, pain and burning sensation
in and around the affected area,
and the burnt area appears to
be slightly shriveled. |
|
Second
Degree Burns: These burns
affect at least the top two layers
of the skin, but they may affect
all of the layers of the skin.
In addition to redness, swelling,
burning and pain, these burns
can also result in blistering.
|
|
Third
Degree Burns: These burns
affect all of the layers of layers
of the skin and the tissues underneath
it. They char the skin and the
burnt area becomes discolored. |
|
Fourth
Degree Burns: These burns
are deep enough to injure the
muscles, ligaments, nerves and
bones. They completely damage
the skin and the affected area
becomes numb because of the damage
of blood vessels and nerve ends. |
The severity
of a burn is also determined by its
size and depth. The age and the medical
condition of the victim are also important
in determining the seriousness of
the case. First degree burns and most
second degree burns usually heal without
special medical care. However, second
degree burns that are spread over
large areas and third degree burns
require medical care to properly heal.
Fourth degree burns are extremely
severe and always require proper medical
attention to heal.
Natural Cures
First
degree burns and most second degree
burns can heal with basic first aid
and natural cures. Here are some of
them:
Water
Run cool
water on a burn wound because this has
a soothing effect and assists in decreasing
the temperature of the wound. The burnt
area can also be submerged in cold water
for 15 to 30 minutes. Later, ice can
be applied to minor burns. Most first
degree burns do not require any other
treatment in order to properly heal.
Honey
Apply honey
on the burnt area. It prevents infection
and assists in healing the wound.
Papaya
Apply
papaya slices or pulp on the wound.
Papaya can help with the removal of
dead cells from the affected area.
Aloe Vera
Aloe
Vera is amagic herb for the skin. Break
a small aloe vera leaf and apply the
gel that seeps from it onto the wound.
Vitamin E and Vitamin
C
Apply
Vitamin E oil on the burn wound after
it begins to heal because this will
help to prevent scarring. Consume 1,000
milligrams of Vitamin C three times
each day to aid in tissue reparation.
