Heartburn

Symptoms of Heartburn

The symptoms of arteriosclerosis depend on which organs are affected by the illness. For example, if the brain is the affected organ and is receiving a reduced blood supply, the individual may suffer from stroke or paralysis of the body. Individuals who are aged may experience memory loss and may become confused by completing even simple tasks. When the blood vessels attached to the brain become blocked they hinder the blood flow, which in turn increases the risk of hemorrhage.

Arteriosclerosis begins by affecting the legs of the patient. Individuals feel pain, numbness and coldness in the feet because of the reduced supply of blood transported to the feet.

Preventing Heartburn

Most cases of heartburn can be prevented by making minor lifestyle changes. Here are a few suggestions to reduce the frequency of heartburn and to prevent it from occurring:

Identify the foods that trigger heartburn and avoid consuming them. Common foods and beverages that cause trigger reflex are alcohol, chocolate, spicy foods, fatty foods, and citrus fruits and juices.
Eat frequent small meals instead of one large meal. Also, do not lie down immediately after consuming meals. Do no exercise or bend over immediately after eating.
Consume dried figs, fresh pineapple, and dried or fresh papaya because they are loaded with digestive enzymes and can prevent indigestion.
Maintain a healthy weight by following healthy eating and exercising habits.
Quit smoking.
Learn to manage stress. Try stress-relieving strategies such as yoga and meditation.

Natural Cures

Preventing heartburn is always recommended and it is fairly simple to do so. However, if you are suffering from heartburn, try the following natural cures to cope with this painful condition.

Bananas

Bananas are believed to have natural antacid effects and may help to relieve the symptoms of heartburn. Eat a banana to feel instant relief from heartburn.

Ginger

Ginger is an excellent remedy for indigestion. There are several ways to use ginger to expedite digestion and to reduce the chances of suffering from heartburn:

Grate a small chunk of ginger in boiling water and let it steep for ten minutes. Strain and add honey. Drink this warm and soothing tea to aid in digestion.
Soak a few slices of fresh ginger root in lemon juice and chew them after meals to promote digestion.

Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is believed to promote digestion, assimilation, and elimination of food that is consumed. It can also help to neutralize any toxic substance that has been ingested by the body.

Mix one to two tablespoons of natural apple cider vinegar and one teaspoon of raw honey into distilled water. Drink this mixture before meals to prevent heartburn.
Alternatively, take apple cider vinegar tablets (available at most health food stores) and use honey water to swallow them.

Herbal remedies

Herbs like peppermint and chamomile are known as carminative herbs. These herbs are believed to cure indigestion and to prevent heartburn. Consider sipping herbal teas that have been prepared with these herbs, preferably before going to bed at night. However, consume peppermint in moderation because it contains a volatile oil known as menthol that may cause heartburn.
