Causes and Risk Factors
Most
men experience an occasional failure
to get an erection. This could be
due to stress, tiredness, anxiety,
or excessive alcohol. However, this
is a persistent condition for some
men; they fail to get an erection
on a frequent basis. It is believed
that a combination of psychological
and physical causes contribute to
developing sexual impotence.
Physical
causes of sexual impotence are
diabetes, hypertension (caused
by hardening of arteries), circulation
disorders, kidney disorders, neurological
disorders like multiple sclerosis,
high cholesterol, side effects
of certain medications, excessive
smoking, alcoholism, drug abuse,
and surgery in the pelvis.
Psychological causes of sexual
impotence are stress and anxiety
(at home or work), marital discord,
financial trouble, problems in
family life, depression, sexual
boredom, performance anguish,
and confusion about sexual orientation.
